Indices of ventilatory lung function (FVC, FEV1, FEV %) which adjust for age and height.

چکیده
The results of ventilatory function tests (FVC, FEV1, and FEV %) depend to a great extent on age and height. In epidemiological investigations, the main purpose of which is to analyse the influence of environmental factors on lung function in the population, it is therefore necessary to use multiple regression methods. This form of statistical analysis is difficult and laborious when there is no access to a computer. An alternative method is to use indices of ventilatory function that adjust for age and height. Khosla (1971) has recently developed a series of such indices. These indices show a high correlation with ventilatory tests and are independent of age and height. The main purpose of our work was to test the value of these new indices on material from our own epidemiological studies of chronic non-specific chest disease carried out in two small industrial enterprises in Krakow, taking into account the possible anthropological differences between the British and Polish populations.

Prediction formulae for lung function parameters in females of south eastern Nigeria.
This study was carried out to obtain normal lung function values for women in south eastern Nigeria with a view to establishing prediction equations for forced vital capacity (FVC), forced expiratory volume at the first second (FEV(1)) and peak expiratory flow rate (PEFR). Lung function values were measured in 600 apparently healthy Nigerian women aged between 18 and 57 years. FVC and FEV1 were...
متن کاملSpirometric Parameters: Hemodialysis Compared to Peritoneal Dialysis
Introduction: Renal failure affects the mechanical and the ventilatory function of the lungs. A few studies have evaluated the ventilatory and pulmonary function in dialysis patients. The present study aimed to compare Pulmonary Function Test (PFT) results in patients undergoing Hemodialysis (HD) and Peritoneal Dialysis (PD). Materials and Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study on 50 pa...
متن کاملEvaluation of Superiority of FEV1/VC Over FEV1/FVC for Classification of Pulmonary Disorders
Introduction: Forced expiratory value in one score (FEV1)/ Forced vital capacity (FVC) was used in classical literature for primary classifications of pulmonary disorders. American Thoracic Society/ European Respiratory Society guidelines recommended using FEV1/VC instead of FEV1/FVC.The aim of study was determination of the extent of superiority of FEV1/VC over the FEV1/FVC. Materials and Met...
متن کاملTime for new reference values for ventilatory lung function
OBJECTIVE The anthropometrical data of our aging population has significantly changed within the last five decades. Therefore the question arises whether or not the commonly used reference values of the European Community (ECCS) for lung function, may still be accepted today. Measured values for elderly are classified by extrapolation beyond the range of reference equations. MATERIAL AND METH...
متن کاملSpirometric lung function tests in normal non-smoking Ethiopian men and women.
Forced vital capacity (FVC), FEV1, FEV1/FVC ratio (FEV1%), forced expiratory flow (FEF 200-1200), and peak expiratory flow rate (PEFR) were measured in 143 male and 117 female healthy Ethiopians. Multiple linear regression analysis was used to correlate these indices with anthropometric variables. The results show that FVC, FEV1, and PEFR give significant regressions with age and height in both...
